Detroit or Mogadishu?

Can you distinguish the most liberal city in America, ruled by the hard-left for forty years, from a third-world hellhole devastated by two decades of civil war?

This is frightening. Seeing these makes me wonder what the interior of Pittsburgh, Chicago, Flint, Cleveland, Boston, New York City, and other major US cities must look like. It’s pretty much redundant to say “most liberal city in America, ruled by the hard-left for forty years.” They all are run by the Left, pretty much anything over half a million people or so anyway.

In fairness, the cities of the Rust Belt – the former manufacturing cities of the north – have been hit especially hard by the move of so many jobs overseas over the years. San Francisco is extremely liberal of course, and it doesn’t look anything like this. Neither do Seattle, Portland, or Los Angeles, New Orleans, Houston or Atlanta.

None of those cities ever relied on manufacturing for their job base like the old industrial towns back east. And granted, I live on the West Coast and haven’t spent much time anywhere else in the country.

I see your point though – unchallenged liberal politics is ruinous to a city. The Hurricane Katrina debacle, in New Orleans back in ’05, illustrated that much.
