Ho-Ho-Ho Green Jobczar

While Chairman Zero’s Green Job Czar was busy calling Republicans “A–holes” and ranting about how white Americans were poisoning colored folkToyota announced it was closing one of the greenest factories in North America. The business climate in California is too hostile even for the greenest of industries.

It would be hard to find a more perfect model of this new world of commerce envisioned by the White House than the New United Motor Manufacturing Inc. (NUMMI) auto plant in Fremont, Calif., a joint venture between Toyota and General Motors….
It employs only the greenest technologies. The environmentally advanced NUMMI plant has garnered 42 environmental awards — topping even its 32 product excellence awards….
But last Friday, Toyota announced that it would shut the plant and move its manufacturing operations to San Antonio, Ontario (Canada) and Japan.

5,500 workers will be out of a job. The work will be transferred to plants in Canada, Japan, and Texas. California’s government remains hopelessly clueless.

It was a sorry sight to see, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger declaring after the NUMMI shutdown that he would replace NUMMI jobs with “green jobs,” forgetting that NUMMI was ultragreen.

“California is a high-tax and high-regulation state,” says Thomas Lifson, a former Harvard business professor and consultant to two of the top five global auto manufacturers. “The reality is, if you’re distributing cars in the western U.S., you can ship from Asia, from plants in Japan and China.”

Arnold is the very model of a moderate Republica, the kind David Frum and Kathleen Parker champion to take back the GOP from the “oogedy boogedy” crowd, and make it safe again for the country club set. But NUMMI isn’t the only casualty of Anhuld’s embrace of the enviro-whacko left.

For the sake of an insignificant fish, California has created a man-made drought that has devastated the state’s agricultural sector.

In the inland areas affected by the court-ordered water restrictions, the jobless rate has hit 14.3%, with some farming towns like Mendota seeing unemployment numbers near 40%. Statewide, the rate reached 11.6% in July, higher than it has been in 30 years.

Workers would be naive to think their livelihoods are high on the agenda of the green left. To appease Gaia requires sacrifices… human sacrifices.

Gah. It just keeps getting worse and worse. This state is INSANE. I’m starting to hate living here.

You can blog about this stuff, Gregory, but feel fortunate you aren’t neck deep in it like I am. Some of us actually have to live with the consequences of the decisions our incompetent leaders make. We don’t live in a red state like Utah, where the leaders have some moral grounding and actually employ common sense.

Today Assembly bill 962 got out of committee and is now headed for a full vote in the state Senate. That’s the one that would criminalize the act of buying handgun ammunition over the Internet or through mail-order, among other sweeping changes to the firearms industry here.

It’s just more of the same old thing – make things a big expensive hassle for regular folks who just want to spend some time down at the range, and do absolutely nothing to deter the bad guys who are probably smuggling weapons and ammo over this border or that one anyway.

What’s really expensive is that I’ve been on the phone to various senators and rep’s to ask them not to vote for this garbage and have been completely ignored. It’s maddening, especially while reading my NRA email alerts and watching other states (and cities therein) pass pro-gun bills one after another: expanded concealed-carry, expanded hunting areas, on and on.

If my entire family weren’t living here, I’d be long gone. I might go anyway.

And of course, the guy “apologizes” for calling people nasty names just because they disagree with him, and nothing further happens to him.

Can you imagine if the shoe was on the other foot? We ourselves would be demanding the guy’s head, because we seem to be more concerned about playing nice with the opposition. We’re not like the Left, who is more interested in ripping us to shreds in Congress and at the ballot box.

    Cylar,

Yeah, and not only that you have Pelosi, Boxer and Feinstein. I won’t even mention San Francisco.

Pfft. Yes, San Fran Nan, Box Your Ears, and Fine Swine. Thanks for reminding me, Doktor.

Ahnold is about as far to the left as I can stomach…those three harpies are nothing short of a total embarrassment. You would not believe how tired us inland dwellers are of LA and San Francisco getting to run the entire state.

So much of the population is concentrated in the big coastal cities, that it’s like the rest of us in the hinterlands don’t even count. The handful of politicians that we send to Sacramento get laughed at when they voice our concerns down at the Capitol.

The notable exceptions were throwing out Red Davis a few years back and getting Prop 8 passed last year.

Now, word is that the gay-marriage marchers are hard at work preparing another ballot initiative aimed at overturning Prop 8 in 2010. It’s like they aren’t getting the message, not even after getting their butts kicked once in the state Supreme Court and twice at the ballot box.

If the NRA were as well organized, well funded, and persistent as that gaggle of hedonists is…we wouldn’t have invasive 10-day background checks to buy a beat-up, $100 old bolt-action hunting rifle, and concealed carry permits would be as common as cell phones.

    Cylar,

I am so very sorry for you. And I live in Illinois!

Doktor Doomed? Wasn’t he the bad guy in the Spiderman cartoons?

    Cylar,

Ya caught me. Ya caught The Tater.
