Evil Spock With a Goatee Universe Update

Let me see if I understand this.

Republicans who want to privatize social security are evil and heartless.

Democrats who want to kill off the old and infirm to save money on socialized health care
are enlightened and compassionate.

Do I have that right?

I'm convinced I woke up in an evil alternate universe where Spock has a goatee

Oh…gag me. I’ve got a left-wing relative (married my cousin five years ago) who tried no less than THREE times to engage me in a debate about “government-run health care.” It all got started when I voted “NO, a thousand times no!” on a Facebook poll question. She saw it (being on my friends list) and went off on me.

I’m sick and tired of left-wingers equating “compassion” with how much public money they want to spend on “helping people,” in this case, helping people afford medical care. It’s like they never stop to think that the real measure is how much YOU PERSONALLY are doing for the less fortunate. How thick-headed do you have to be to not understand this?

I won’t even go into the obvious stuff – that countries that already do have government-run healthcare have made a mess of the industry, simply because the government tends to do that to everything it touches.

Gregory, I know you are a spiritual man, and so you will appreciate what came next…

What’s even worse is that since she and I are both Christians, she tried to drag Jesus into it and imply that I’m a rotten believer. I guess I missed the part of the Scriptures where the faithful are commanded to advocate that the government take away other peoples’ hard-earned wealth and use the proceeds to fund social services in the name of “compassion.” It was really insulting, because I can open a Bible anytime I like and read in plain English what the Lord actually said about compassion. He said, “Go, sell YOUR possessions and give the money to the poor.”

There’s not a word in the New Testament about all the things the apostles did to get the Roman government to provide charity or free health care. In the first century, this was properly understood to be a function of the church and private individuals.

I’m quite close to my cousin (her husband) and don’t want to cause problems with him (and so refused to debate her), but believe me, I am starting to rue the day he brought her into our family. What’s worse is that I was the best man at their wedding.

Okay, alternate universe lovers, here he is! The one. The only. EVIL SPOCK!!!

Regarding ”Universal” (what in the hell does that mean? Universal misery?) Health Care, Mark Levin was saying on his show Tuesday that Medicare costs have skyrocketed faster than private health care costs. And that’s not using the recent costs for prescriptions. Now the costs are more, per person, to be covered by government Medicare than it does if you have your own coverage. Of course, the government (we, the people) have to pay for those high costs.
